Are Commercially Implemented Adaptive Cruise Control Systems String Stable?

چکیده

In this article, we assess the string stability of seven 2018 model year adaptive cruise control (ACC) equipped vehicles that are widely available in US market. Seven distinct vehicle models from two different makes analyzed using data collected more than 1,200 miles driving car-following experiments with ACC engaged by follower vehicle. The resulting dataset is used to identify parameters a linear second order delay differential equation approximates behavior black box systems. data-fitted associated each assessed, and main finding all have unstable For one commonly offers as standard feature on trim levels, validate multi-vehicle homogeneousplatoon experiment which same year, make, model. test, an initial disturbance 6 mph amplified 25 disturbance, at point last platoon observed disengage ACC. made available, representing largest publicly comparative vehicles.

Optimal Adaptive Cruise Control with Guaranteed String Stability

A two-level Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) synthesis method is presented in this paper. At the upper level, desired vehicle acceleration is computed based on vehicle range and range rate measurement. At the lower (servo) level, an adaptive control algorithm is designed to ensure the vehicle follows the upper level acceleration command accurately. It is shown that the servo-level dynamics can be ...

Adaptive Cruise Control Systems and Their Influence on Traffic Flow

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems are currently being developed by automotive manufacturers for highway vehicle automation [3],[4]. An ACC system enhances regular cruise control by using an on-board radar to maintain a desired spacing from a preceding vehicle that has been detected in the same lane on the highway. The firstgeneration ACC systems are currently available in Japan and Europe a...

String Stability Analysis of Adaptive Cruise Controlled Vehicles

A framework for string-stability analysis is formulated in this paper. First, uniform string will be analyzed. We will then present analysis results on strings of mixed vehicles. A String-Stability Margin (SSM) index is defined in this paper to give a quantitative measurement of any ACC design. Simulation results using MATLAB and a microscopic traffic simulator will also be given to demonstrate...

The Effects of Packet Loss on the String Stability of Platoons using Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control

In the near future, the use of Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control could contribute to solving the traffic congestion problems experienced in daily life by enabling vehicles to form a platoon, driving with a small distance from each other. This distance should be as short as possible, to optimise throughput on the road. If the distance is too short, however, unexpected actions can cause a traff...
